Casper Agger Sørensen in an industrial production hall
Head of EngineeringHerning, Denmark

Casper Agger Sørensen

“I lead engineering departments that have to build real things”

Twenty-five years in engineering, the last twelve running the departments. Wind turbines, hydrogen, solar heat and lifts. Usually eight to twelve engineers plus consultants, often spread across several countries.

The job is much the same everywhere. Get the drawings right. Get them approved. Get the thing built and out the door, on time, at a price that works.

What I am usually brought in to solve

Getting the team right

Hiring, planning who does what, and having the conversations nobody enjoys. I give people responsibility a bit before they feel ready. You can tell if it worked by looking at the department a year after I have left.

Leading when money is tight

I have run engineering through restructuring and job cuts, and got products out faster at the same time. Deliveries held. People stayed. Keeping things moving in good times is the easy part.

Getting products out faster and cheaper

A proper development process, changes kept under control, and certification run with five different bodies across four industries. Approvals are where projects quietly lose half a year. Costs came down several million kroner a year, two years running, found in the design rather than squeezed out of suppliers.

Talking to management and the board

Funding and agreement at VP, SVP, CTO and board level in four companies. If engineering cannot explain itself upwards, it does not get the money.

Different products, same job

LIFTS

Trailer and crawler machines sold worldwide, developed in-house.

HYDROGEN

Electrolysers and refuelling stations, through the fastest growth the sector has had.

WIND

Towers for onshore and offshore turbines, at Vestas scale.

SOLAR HEAT

Solar towers and thermal plant, from drawing to handover on site.

DEFENCE

What I am looking for

A company with a hard technical problem and the seriousness to solve it properly. I care more about the problem and the people than the title on the contract. Head of Engineering, Engineering Director, VP of Engineering, technical operations, or a role that has not been written down yet.
